Ferrous Scrap
The best way to describe ferrous metals is that they're magnetic. These metals tend to be much bulkier than non-ferrous metals, therefore requiring more space.
Amkay Metals provides the highest-grade ferrous scrap products. Take a look at our products' specifications and contact our team for pricing.
HMS 1
HMS, or Heavy Melting Steel is a designation for recyclable steel and wrought iron. HMS 1 is the term for heavier scrap which has a density of at least 0.7 tons per cubic meter. It doesn't contain galvanized and blackened steel.
HMS 1 & 2
HMS 2 typically has a mix of light and heavy gauge material.
Busheling
Considered the highest grade of ferrous scrap due to its recovery and chemistry, busheling are pieces of metal cut from metal production, typically from industrial accounts. This material must be clean, new factory stamps or clippings, and may not be auto body material of any kind.
Cast Iron
The difference between cast Iron and steel is the carbon content. Cast iron has more carbon and is brittle compared to steel. Examples of where this material can be found include demolition sites, auto body shops (drums and rotors), old furnaces, and cookware.
Shredded
Shred is a term used to describe a blend of tin, automobiles, and unprepared steel that has been shredded. Homogeneous iron and steel scrap, magnetically separated, originating from automobiles, unprepared No. 1 and No. 2 steel, miscellaneous baling, and sheet scrap.

MS Turnings
MS (Mild Steel) Turning is a purposeful material for steel making as it's a naturally greasy product that melts fast. When entering the charge, the turnings quickly melt to the bottom, providing a protective layer between the charge and the rest of the melting scrap material.

P&S
P&S or Plate & Structural steel mainly comes from construction and demolitions; think bridges, high-rises, and commercial buildings. This material will
often be in the form of an I-beam or plate over ½” thick. P&S is one of the higher grades of steel due to its high recovery when melted.
LMS Bundles
LMS Bundle Scrap refers to the leftover pieces of Low Melting Steel (LMS) from manufacturing and production processes. These scraps are often sold and recycled to create new products or used as raw materials for various industries, including construction, automotive, and manufacturing.
Fabrication
Fabrication scrap is generated from operations that are conducted at different stages in the production of structures, equipment, and products. In general, the scrap from fabrication comprises cuttings, punching, chips, turnings, borings, etc.
HR Trimming
HR (Hot Rolled) Trimming is the cut off from the slitting machines which process coils for industrial manufacturing use. When new HR coils are processed, they're cut to customer specifications; the off cut from the cutting die is known as HR trimming scrap.
